Superb antique percussion pistol signed Mortimer – Edinburgh, from a famous line of Scottish gunsmiths renowned for the quality of their civilian and military weapons during the 19th century.
This compact model, of the pocket or travel pistol type, perfectly illustrates the British know-how of the time.
Main features:
• Manufacture: Mortimer workshop, Edinburgh (original engraving on the barrel).
• Period: Circa 1830–1860.
• Octagonal steel barrel, well preserved, with bluing still visible.
• Richly engraved percussion plate, floral decoration and scrolls characteristic of the British style.
• Sculpted, fitted and decorated dog.
• Fine checkered wood, with an arched handle, typical of pocket pistols of the period.
• Steel rod present, under the barrel.
