French percussion naval pistol – Model 1837
France – July Monarchy (Louis-Philippe), 19th century
A very fine example of a regulation pistol of the French Navy, model 1837, the first pistol designed specifically for naval use, produced between 1838 and 1847 in the royal manufactories (Tulle / Châtellerault / Saint-Étienne depending on the series).
This model is recognizable by its strongly curved stock, brass fittings, captive ramrod, and belt hook, all adapted for mounted combat. It is rarer and more refined than contemporary cavalry pistols.
